  • Step 1: Group 1 observes and assesses the initial product
  • Step 2: Group 1 creates a detailed description of what the product does and how it works
  • Step 3: Group 2, who have never seen the initial product, go over the description provided by Group 1
  • Step 4: Group 2 builds their own product using Group 1’s description. 


The final result is a product with almost the exact function as the initial product but with a somewhat different approach. While it can be used to skirt intellectual property law, this method of reverse engineering is not considered ethical in most cases.
