Here in the OC, shopping is practically an Olympic sport, and the participating cities take the events very seriously. So, if you’re game, these are some of the top shopping experiences you can look forward to on your next trip to the OC. 


Guide to Shopping in the OC


South Coast Plaza

South Coast Plaza is located in Costa Mesa. It is the ultimate posh shopping location with over 250 boutiques and restaurants. While South Coast does boast some of the most desirable designers, the plaza has something for everyone. 


With plenty of options for those on a budget as well as the finest boutiques in the country, you could spend literal days just trying to see everything. For a nice lunch break, make a reservation at any one of the available dining establishments, or if you have kids grab a pretzel and head to the carousel on the ground floor. 


Fashion Island

Fashion Island is the place to go for beachside shopping. Located in Newport Beach, Fashion Island offers an open-air shopping experience with a hand-picked selection of high-end stores and culinary experiences. 


There are a few mid-budget options, but Fashion Island is better known for its selection of high-end retailers and designers. The offerings are more limited than at South Coast, but the setting is unbeatable. 


The LAB

For the shopper who likes to go off the beaten path, Costa Mesa offers the LAB. The acronym stands for Little American Business and includes a handful of small, independent shops. The LAB is a go-to place for shoppers who prefer a more bohemian vibe and a few more vegan options. 


Downtown Disney

The OCis also home to Disneyland. If you’re a Disney aficionado, then there is no better place to be than downtown Disney on a summer evening. For those who aren’t already aware, no one is better at creating atmosphere than Disney.


Head to the downtown district for great shopping that includes Disney merch, LEGO, and so much more. Have a wonderful dinner and enjoy the sound of the various musicians and bustling people. If that doesn’t scratch your shopping itch, the Anaheim Gardenwalk is just a few minutes away.


Irvine Spectrum

The Irvine Spectrum is a date night favorite for locals. The center is home to a massive theater, the Irvine Improv, plenty of culinary options, and over 160 shops. You could easily spend an entire day milling around this outdoor shopping area. 


While the Spectrum isn’t beachside, it is perfectly groomed in the traditional Orange County style with plenty of green and modern flair. The Spectrum also offers a lot more shopping options for guests who aren’t exclusively into designer boutiques. 


The Camp

The Camp and the LAB are across the street from one another. The Camp is a slightly larger shopping area dedicated to healthy living and an eco-friendly lifestyle. While you may see a few small, local chains included, all of the shops have the same commitment to offering you healthy, active options. 


The Key to Shopping in the OC

There are so many shopping experiences available in Orange County that it can be hard to pick just one. The key is to decide what kind of experience you want to have and what stores you’re most interested in perusing.
